Communications in the Public Interest Since 1952
The Maryland Emergency Phone Net (MEPN) is a section net of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) National Traffic System (NTS). Its purposes are to provide efficient coordinated radio communication in time of emergency, to provide a means for people commonly interested in amateur radio to associate, and to further better cooperation among its members and the general community.
Effective Sunnday, March 11, 2018, the MEPN meets at 6:00 p.m. local time with the pre-net at 5:30 p.m. The same liaisons will be called and the net times in the preamble and closing scripts will reflect the new net times.
When band conditions degrade in late FAll or Winter, the MEPN may start an hour earlier.
The MEPN meets every night at 6:00 PM local on 3820 kHz to pass traffic within the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia. Liaisons to nets in the states of Delaware and West Virginia are available. All appropriately licensed amateur operators are invited to participate in MEPN operations, even if they are not members.
